The very knowledgeable Kelsey of Australian green beauty blog Megsy Jane is a monthly guest blogger here on the Eve Organics blog. This month, Kelsey shares her tips on how to maintain your skin care regime in winter, for beautiful skin from head to toe!
As the weather begins to cool down, it's time to start thinking about your skincare routine. Just like the weather, your skincare and make-up should change with the seasons. Autumn and Winter are usually much drier than the warm summer months, so you want to switch out to more hydrating, moisturising formulas.
My winter skin essentials include a good lip balm, body butter, a multi-purpose balm and a hydrating facial oil, cream or light liquid foundation.
In summer you want everything as lightweight as you can get, so if you usually wear a mineral powder, your skin will thank you for switching to a more hydrating liquid or cream formula in the cooler months. I live in a climate that is extremely windy in winter, so if I don't put on a light layer of make-up, I find my (normal skin type)skin can become very dried out. A light liquid foundation like Vapour's Atmosphere Soft Focus Foundation is a great option, as it provides light-medium coverage, and contains a number of certified organic oils making it an extremely hydrating and nourishing formula.
If you aren't one to wear make-up, even a light coverage one, you need to at least be using a day cream or facial oil to help protect your skin and keep it supple and hydrated. The Mokosh Rich Face Cream is a great choice for those that are prone to dryness, or the Light Face Cream is suited to normal skin types, and also perfect for under make-up!
Another item I'm never without is lip balm. I apply every few hours throughout the day - and even more regularly in winter. No one wants chapped lips, and prevention is always better than a cure ;)
Something small and lightweight that you can slip into your pocket or purse is always a good option - the Captain Blankenship Anchor Hand & Lip Balm comes in a sleek tin and is multi-use - bonus!
Another item I'm never without in winter is a nourishing body butter. With a silky, lush texture that melts into the skin and delicious scents, all of Harlow's Body Butters are intensely hydrating for hands, elbows, knees and anywhere else in need of some TLC, but I especially love the Bohemian Body Butter. The labels & glass jars are also pretty chic - and you can re-purpose the jars after use!
As far as multi-use products go, you can't get much better than the Romeo & Madden 100% Natural Multi-Balm. Not just suited to chapped or dry skin, you can also use the Romeo & Madden balm on bites, cuts, scrapes, rashes, dry skin conditions or even as a hair treatment!
Another tip I have is to add a facial mist to your skincare. They are brilliant for delivering added hydration throughout the day (even over make-up), can be applied on-the-go and are perfect in any season when you just can't get enough. There are a number of options available, but I personally love floral or aloe-based mists. The Black Robin Whole Lotta Rosie Mist Toner or Captain Blankeship Aloe & Rose Toner are both beautiful mists and sleek enough to pop in your gym or handbag. Blissoma and The Little Alchemist also have gorgeously hydrating mist options.
And...drink plenty of water! I know this seems to be repeated everywhere, but making sure you keep hydrated throughout the day will also make a huge difference to your skin and help keep it plump and supple. Adding a slice of lemon or few drops of raw Apple Cider Vinegar can also help with your water absorption and give you a few extra nutrients while you're at it!
Passionate about health and beauty, I began the Megsy-Jane blog to prove that green CAN be glam. My aim is to educate women on the safer, healthier alternatives to the mainstream – that work. You needn’t sacrifice your health for beauty, and you don’t have to sacrifice performance for health.
Organic beauty has come a long way in the last few years, and I know from personal experience how overwhelming making “the switch” can be. Along with product reviews and brand spotlights, I share useful tools and handy resources that help make the switch to organic that much easier. Your skin will thank you.
I also have a handcrafted Flower Crown & Accessories label by the same name, so when I’m not writing on organic beauty and skincare, you’ll most likely find me in the studio up to my elbows in flowery goodness.
