The beauty of switching to 100% natural skin care is that you no longer have to think about all the nasties you’re depositing onto your face and body on a daily basis – but this comes with a caveat.
Although the natural skin care on the market today is extremely advanced in terms of performance and the look and feel of the products, the fact remains that without synthetic preservatives, they usually don’t last as long as their mass-produced synthetic counterparts.
Most of the time, the shelf life of a natural skin care product is longer than it would take you to use up the product – but there are still a few rules you should follow to make sure your products stay as fresh and effective as possible for as long as possible.
1. Keep it cool.
Many natural skin care products lack the ingredients found in synthetic products that ‘hold’ the product together. A good example of this is our Raw Gaia range of products. All the Raw Gaia moisturisers are made with a beautiful blend of essential oils, teamed with cocoa butter.
Ideally, they should be solid but malleable – so that you can scoop some out and warm it in your fingers before applying. But if left in a warm environment, they can ‘liquify’ – that is, turn to liquid. Cooling the product again can cause it to become separated, so that the ingredients are not mixed as they should be.
For the product to perform in the way it was designed, it needs to be kept cool – and this is the same for many natural skin products.
2. Keep it dry.
This applies especially to those products that come in powder form; for example, our Mokosh Face Cleansing Powder or Raw Gaia Face Packs. Designed to be mixed with water before applying, it’s tempting to keep these products in the shower – but be careful here.
One of the reasons natural facial masks are created this way (in powder form) is to avoid the need for preservatives. Bacteria need water – so removing the water from a product removes the need to add preservatives. So, once you get water (even a drop!) in your jar of powder mask, it’s only a matter of time before the product begins to go off.
Our tip is to apply such products before you get in the shower. Take a heaped teaspoon-full of powdered mask and mix it in a bowl with equal parts water. Apply to your face, then jump in the shower.
3. Make sure your products are working together.
Most natural skin care products say something on the label like, ‘follow with our *insert brand name* toner and moisturiser’ – or, ‘for best results, team with our other *insert brand name* skin care products’.
Skin care doesn’t have to be this regimental – you can mix and match, and use a cleanser, toner and moisturiser from three different natural skin care ranges. However, you need to be sure that the products you’re using compliment each other.
It’s no use using three different products all designed for dry skin if the end result is an oil-slick complexion! It may be that you only need to address dryness with one product, and target other skin care issues during the rest of your regime.
The key here is to ask questions. Here at Eve Organics, we provide free personalised skin care consultations – no catches! Simply send us an email and tell us what your skin type is, your current skin care routine, and what specific issues you wish to address – and we’ll send you a complete, comprehensive skin care regime, complete with personalised advice and recommendations.
This way, you’ll know that the combination of products you choose will achieve the desired results. We know our skin care ranges like the back of our hands – so use us to your advantage!
Do you have any tried & tested tricks to help you get the most out of your natural skin care products? Let us know – we’d love to hear them!
…. Until next time xx
Raw Gaia skin care is as pure as it can get: 100% natural, 100% organic and 100% vegan. What’s more, Raw Gaia products are produced using a unique low-temperature process which ensures that the vitamins, minerals and ‘life-force’ of the products are conserved right through to the packaging stage, so your skin derives the best possible benefit from the products’ delicious ingredients.
Raw Gaia’s ‘For Her Daughters’ Living Moisturiser is a wonder-product. It combines 4 of the most reknowned healing and balancing natural oils; evening primrose oil (excellent for addressing hormonal imbalances and for nurturing and restoring the complexion); rosehip oil (a powerhouse of nutrients and essential fatty acids, as well as being fantastic for scarring and pigmentation); geranium essential oil, which balances whilst revitalising and brightening the complexion; and palmarosa essential oil, which aids in cell regeneration and fights skin infections.
This unique combination of balancing and healing ingredients means the For Her Daughters Living Moisturiser (‘living’ because, like all Raw Gaia products, the essential nutrients in the product have been maintained at their maximum possible potency) is perfect for combination skin types, acneic skin, skin that is in need of some balance (perhaps because it is sensitive, goes through dry and oily stages, or reacts significantly to the menstrual cycle), or troubled skin in need of some TLC.
To use, the product is beautiful. The first thing you’ll notice when you open the cute but sophisticated pink jar is the smell. It smells like… chocolate, with the tiniest hint of orange. It’s an absolute pleasure to put the product on your skin – in fact, it’s difficult to resist eating it; it smells so delicious!
As with all of Raw Gaia’s moisturisers, it sinks into the skin like a dream, leaving a satiny, matte finish – no greasiness at all. Skin feels noticeably softer and smoother after just one use of the For Her Daughters moisturiser – and it’s no wonder – it’s packed with skin-loving ingredients, in a creamy cocoa butter base.
The For Her Daughters Living Moisturiser is available at Eve Organics – along with our range of other 100% natural skin care products.

Today we thought we’d feature a gorgeous review we found on our Raw Gaia Living Facial Cleanser. This cleanser is a bit different – in a good way! Read on to find out more…
“I was recently invited by Raw Gaia to try out their Living Facial Cleanser first hand. I must admit when I first noticed the word “Living” it kinda scared me. I thought “what the heck am I going to be putting on my face?” ” I sure hope it doesn’t actually move!” So my parcel arrived last week and I was very pleased when I opened the box to find an attractive cobalt blue glass bottle of my Organic Facial Cleanser. Now just to clarify I am not a vegetarian or vegan by any means, but I love the concept of an all natural, pure skin care product. Through other reviews I have done in the past one thing always seems to ring true. Natural is better. It is time to get away from all the harsh, damaging chemicals that we use on our hair and skin. There are lots of wonderful oils and nutrients that mother nature has to offer. We just need to take a step back and enjoy what our Earth has to offer. So the “living” part of this facial cleanser is really quite simple and not scary at all. Basically Raw Gaia retains all the life force of the vital nutrients by not over heating their ingredients. Over heating can destroy most of the antioxidants, minerals, vitamins and the life force. This facial cleanser is essentially raw and living. As you can well imagine with such an organic, pure product it might also be sensitive to light and I think this is probably it is packaged in the dark-blue glass bottle. Makes sense to me and looks great.
With some facial cleansers you get your face wet and scrub away to remove dirt and oil and than rinse thoroughly. Raw Gaia organic living facial cleanser is a little different. You simply wet your face and then spray your entire face and neck with the facial cleanser. Then you take a cotton pad and wipe it off, taking all the nasty dirt and oil with it. I have been using the Raw Gaia facial cleanser for just about a week now. I really love that this facial cleanser is so gentle on my skin. It leaves it feeling clean, but not all dried out. It is soft and clean. You don’t feel like there is any residue left on your skin. It is not oily or sticky, but it does do something to your skin almost immediately-It nourishes it. I tried an experiment this week with Raw Gaia facial cleanser. I washed my face using an everyday bar soap. I used a well-known brand that has been around for decades. I washed my face throughly and rinsed it as well as I could and then patted my skin dry. I spritzed some Raw Gaia Living Facial Cleaners on a cotton pad and began wiping it across my face. I was amazed and disgusted all at the same time. My skin felt tight after the bar soap was but after using the Raw Gaia it felt moisturized. That is the amazing part. The disgusting part is the amount of dirt that was clearly visible on the cotton pad after I had just (what I thought) was thoroughly cleansed my face. How on earth did I still have makeup and other residue on my face? I was very impressed at this point. I had to find out what was really in this stuff. Here is what I found . . .
Organic Witch Hazel Floral Water: It has fantastic cleansing and astringent qualities without drying the skin. High in antioxidants and well-known for its revitalising properties, witch hazel floral Water is particularly effective on teenage skin. Its anti-inflammatory properties are good for reducing redness and sore swollen skin.
Organic Tea Tree Floral Water & Tea Tree Essential Oil: An antifungal, antiseptic, antiviral and antibacterial combination which is highly cleansing and purifying. It also helps to clear spots and pimples.
Organic Juniper Floral Water & Juniper Essential Oil: Effectively cleanses and detoxifies the skin. Especially good for acne, unblocking pores, congested skin and water retention.
Organic Cold-pressed Jojoba Oil: combines with the skin’s own sebum and gently unclogs pores and helps to free embedded dirt and grime. It is a natural anti-bacterial and helps to reduce skin inflammation.
Organic Cold-pressed Wheatgerm Oil: Rich in natural antifungal and antibacterial properties and high in vitamin E. It has excellent antioxidant properties which helps improve one’s overall complexion.
Organic Sweet Orange Essential Oil: A natural antibacterial agent with good cleansing properties. Helps to detoxify congested skin and is a good overall skin tonic with the added bonus of helping to reduce fine lines.
Organic Lemon Essential Oil: Helps to enliven the skin complexion by removing dead skin cells. It has good cleansing ability and is naturally antifungal and antibacterial.
Organic Eucalyptus Essential Oil: Helps to clear congested skin, spots and pimples.
No wonder this facial cleanser from Raw Gaia works so well. I also find that it has a really nice calm scent, one that is natural and not offensive at all, might be the Eucalyptus but not quite sure.
Check out all the wonderful, organic products Raw Gaia has to offer. There really is a great selection.
If you are looking for all natural, 100% organic and vegan skin care products, you have to check out Raw Gaia. If you’re not totally satisfied with your current facial cleaner, try going chemical free and give Raw Gaia a chance. I really think it is a great cleanser and I have seen improvements in my skin already. I can’t wait to see more improvement over the following few weeks.
Hope you enjoyed that glowing review! The Living Facial Cleanser really is a beautiful, simple, and wonderfully effective product, and is especially good for oily and combination skin types. Plus, you don’t need any water to use it, so it’s fantastic for travel, and you can keep it at the side of your bed with some cotton balls & lazily wipe your makeup off after a big night. So convenient!
