How to get the most out of your natural skin care
The beauty of switching to 100% natural skin care is that you no longer have to think about all the nasties you’re depositing onto your face and body on a daily basis – but this comes with a caveat.
Although the natural skin care on the market today is extremely advanced in terms of performance and the look and feel of the products, the fact remains that without synthetic preservatives, they usually don’t last as long as their mass-produced synthetic counterparts.
Most of the time, the shelf life of a natural skin care product is longer than it would take you to use up the product – but there are still a few rules you should follow to make sure your products stay as fresh and effective as possible for as long as possible.
1. Keep it cool.
Many natural skin care products lack the ingredients found in synthetic products that ‘hold’ the product together. A good example of this is our Raw Gaia range of products. All the Raw Gaia moisturisers are made with a beautiful blend of essential oils, teamed with cocoa butter.
Ideally, they should be solid but malleable – so that you can scoop some out and warm it in your fingers before applying. But if left in a warm environment, they can ‘liquify’ – that is, turn to liquid. Cooling the product again can cause it to become separated, so that the ingredients are not mixed as they should be.
For the product to perform in the way it was designed, it needs to be kept cool – and this is the same for many natural skin products.
2. Keep it dry.
This applies especially to those products that come in powder form; for example, our Mokosh Face Cleansing Powder or Raw Gaia Face Packs. Designed to be mixed with
water before applying, it’s tempting to keep these products in the shower – but be careful here.
One of the reasons natural facial masks are created this way (in powder form) is to avoid the need for preservatives. Bacteria need water – so removing the water from a product removes the need to add preservatives. So, once you get water (even a drop!) in your jar of powder mask, it’s only a matter of time before the product begins to go off.
Our tip is to apply such products before you get in the shower. Take a heaped teaspoon-full of powdered mask and mix it in a bowl with equal parts water. Apply to your face, then jump in the shower.
3. Make sure your products are working together.
Most natural skin care products say something on the label like, ‘follow with our *insert brand name* toner and moisturiser’ – or, ‘for best results, team with our other *insert brand name* skin care products’.
Skin care doesn’t have to be this regimental – you can mix and match, and use a cleanser, toner and moisturiser from three different natural skin care ranges. However, you need to be sure that the products you’re using compliment each other.
It’s no use using three different products all designed for dry skin if the end result is an oil-slick complexion! It may be that you only need to address dryness with one product, and target other skin care issues during the rest of your regime.
The key here is to ask questions. Here at Eve Organics, we provide free personalised skin care consultations – no catches! Simply send us an email and tell us what your skin type is, your current skin care routine, and what specific issues you wish to address – and we’ll send you a complete, comprehensive skin care regime, complete with personalised advice and recommendations.
This way, you’ll know that the combination of products you choose will achieve the desired results. We know our skin care ranges like the back of our hands – so use us to your advantage!

Our favourite multi-taskers
Who doesn’t love a product that can do more than one thing brilliantly?
Here are our favourite Eve Organics multi-taskers!
100% Pure Cucumber Eye Cream Gel = Soothing After-Wax Cream
This beautifully simple, soothing little gem is not only a cool drink for tired, puffy eyes; it’s also fantastic as a post-waxing treatment, to soothe skin, remove redness and prevent ingrown hairs. We’re serious – we’ve tried it!
Raw Gaia Clay Face Packs (Green/Rhassoul/Chocolate) = Facial Exfoliant
As well as withdrawing impurities, brightening uneven skin tone and refining texture, these powder masks exfoliate beautifully as you remove them; so they can save you money too (no need to buy an exfoliator to add to your regime!) – Simply pat on, leave for 10 minutes then rub gently in a circular motion in the shower, and whola – smooth, clearer, softer skin.
100% Pure Cucumber Juice/Lavender Honey Cleansing Facial Foam = Gentle Body Wash
The best thing about these simple cleansers is that a little goes a really long way! They foam as you dispense them, making application a breeze and meaning you use much less product. Because they’re so bubbly and easy to spread, they also double as gentle body washes, suited to even the most sensitive skins.

The 4 ‘skin vitamins’, what they do for you & where to find them!
Vitamins. We take them in tablet-form for the health of our internal organs, but what about our largest, external organ – our skin? These vitamins can also be applied topically, and can work wonders for a whole host of skin conditions. So what are the all-important ‘skin vitamins’, and why should you include them in your skin care regime?
Arguably the most widely-toted as a skin vitamin, Vitamin E is well recognised as an antioxidant, and can help to protect the skin from toxins such as air pollution and ultraviolet radiation. Its antioxidant properties mean it enhances immune system functioning, and helps to fight free radicals. Vitamin E is commonly used as a treatment for scars, thanks to its ability to aid the skin’s natural healing process.

100% Pure Coffee Cherry Sun Damage Corrective Cream, $49.95
100% Pure Pomegranate Antioxidant Hydration SPF 20, $39.95
Vitamin C

Also a potent antioxidant, our second skin vitamin offers a multitude of benefits when applied topically, including its abilities to promote healing and reduce sun damage, encourage the synthesis of collagen, and reduce inflammation and hyperpigmentation.
Where can I get it?!
100% Pure Brightening Tonique, $29.95
The Little Alchemist Ultra-C Radiance Serum, $56.00
Vitamin A
Vitamin A has been widely researched as a treatment for acne, and in the form of retinol, it appears to increase the production of certain skin components, namely procollagen and gycosaminoglycan. These compounds retain water and help to form new skin cells. It has also been found effective against UV damage, and as a treatment for psoriasis.
Where can I get it?!
The Little Alchemist Anti-Aging Defense Complex, $78
Vitamin D
Vitamin D is a ‘steroid vitamin’, which means it encourages the absorption and metabolism of calcium and phosphorous. For this reason, Vitamin D is incredibly important for our health, especially bone health. It also helps to regulate the immune system, and has anti-inflammatory properties.
Where can I get it?!
From the sun! Experts recommend at least 10-15 minutes of sun exposure twice a week on the face, arms, hands and back in order to maintain optimum Vitamin D levels. For more information on this, see this informative article from Medical News Today.
Vitamin D can also be taken in tablet-form, and is found in high amounts in oily fish, cheese and egg yolks.
Do you take daily Vitamin supplements to help maintain healthy skin? Have you tried any of the Vitamin-rich skin care treatments mentioned here? How are you finding them? Let us know your thoughts!

Toners – What’s the deal?
We’ve received more than a few queries recently about toners – What do they do? When should I use them? Do I even need one?
Well, we’re here to answer your queries, and solve the toner mystery once and for all.
1. First: the biggest question – what do toners do?
Well, they serve a few purposes, actually.
- Toners ‘tone’ the skin.
A good toner will even out skin tone, reduce pore size and condition the skin.
- Toners remove excess makeup, dirt and product after cleansing.
We do our best – but let’s face it; sometimes we miss a spot during our daily cleanse. Toners go the extra mile to make sure we’ve removed the day – and this is important for all skin types, particularly if you wear makeup. Toners can be particularly helpful for removing eye makeup that your cleanser can’t quite shift.
- Toners prepare the skin for moisturisation.
Just as applying a primer helps to ‘prep’ the skin for makeup application, a toner helps to smooth the complexion and prepare it to absorb moisturiser.
- Toners can also ‘set’ your makeup – just apply a light spritz after makeup application, and whola!
- Toners can help to address specific skin care issues.
Your cleanser doesn’t stay on your skin; and your moisturiser serves primarily a hydrating function – so how do you take care of those other, niggling skin care concerns (enlarged pores, pigmentation or uneven skin tone, blemishes) – well, your toner can help here. There’s a toner for every skin type and concern – from mature and sensitive to acne-prone. Check out our range of 100% natural toners.
2. Okay, so now I know what a toner can do for my skin. But when and how should I use it?
Well, usually, a toner fits in after cleansing and before your serum/treatment/moisturising cream.
However, toners are also a fantastic alternative to wet wipes, as a way of removing makeup. Some of our customers have told us that in the morning they cleanse, tone and moisturise – but some evenings, they just can’t face the routine of their regular skin care regime; so they simply remove their makeup with their toner and a cotton ball, before applying their nightly hydration.
Toners can also be used to refresh and revive during hot weather or long-haul flights. Want to avoid that dehydrated, tired, red look that usually joins you at your destination after a long journey? Keep a natural toner handy and spritz it over your face during the flight for hydration. Our Oz Goddess Rehydrating Toner fits the bill perfectly, with its soothing rose and chamomile to calm inflammation.
3. So…. do I need a toner in my skin care regime?
Well, this one is up to you.
If you feel that your current, toner-free skin care regime is meeting your skin care needs, then by all means, stick with it. A toner is not imperative. But, if you have skin care issues that you feel aren’t being met and you just need that extra boost, whatever it may be – then adding a toner might help to fill this gap.
Personally, I think a toner is something you don’t think you need until you try one.
If you’re considering adding a toner to your skin care regime but aren’t sure which one to go with, or where to start – please get in touch with us! We’re here to help, and we love helping you with your skin care queries.

Product Review – 100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream!
This week, we stumbled across this sparkling review of the hugely popular 100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream – a cult favourite! Read what Chic & Green had to say about one of our best-loved products below.
(Note – some measurements and prices been converted to make this review easier to understand for our non-US readers.)
Review: 100% Pure Organic Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream
Thoughts: Since I decided to begin eliminating all products made with synthetic fragrances, I needed to find a new eye cream. I opted to buy one from 100% Pure. I like several products from 100% Pure. This one may just be my favorite. It is all natural, vegan and gluten free, as well as free of artificial fragrances. When I apply this, my undereye area feels so soothed. The number one ingredient in this is green tea, and I love that about this treatment.
I also love the fact that calendula hydrosol is high up on the ingredients list. I used to use calendula to make a soothing cucumber & calendula facial mist for those with sensitive skin and it really is so soothing and beneficial to those with skin that is easily irritated.
The coffee in this really helps to brighten the undereye area and boost circulation. I have the tendency to get dark circles and while this hasn’t removed them, the area is brighter.
I also want to mention the aroma. I have eliminated artificial fragrances from my beauty routine, but there is pure and natural vanilla absolute in this. Combined with the coffee, it’s like a very comforting and soothing vanilla mocha. It absorbs right in so it won’t bother the senses, but it is lovely while applying.
Ingredients: Organic Green Tea, Organic Calendula Hydrosol, Organic Rosehip Oil, Organic Green Coffee, Vitamin E (a-tocopherol), Vitamin C (ascorbyl palmitate), Extracts of Coffee Cherry, Organic Rosemary, Organic Oregano, Organic Thyme, Organic Grapefruit Seed and Organic Goldenseal, Organic Vanilla Absolute, Candelilla Wax
Price: This product is $32.95 for 1 ounce (29ml) from eveorganics.com.au. This, per ounce, is more affordable than many name brand drugstore creams. Keep in mind that most eye creams on the market range from 0.25 to 0.5 ounces. For example, my past favorites (which I no longer use because of the synthetic fragrance) from Burt’s Bees retail for $18 and $25 each for a half ounce jar.
Other eye cream prices for the sake of comparison:
L’Oreal Youth Code (0.5 ounces) $38.65
Olay Definity Eye Treatment (0.5 ounces), $29.99
Philosophy The Miracle Worker Eye Cream (0.45 ounces), $86.70
Lancome Absolue Premium (0.5 ounces), $86.50
Really? $86.70??? No way!
My Grade: a well deserved A+
Note: This product is not one that was sent to me for review. I purchased it on my own.
We hope you found this review helpful! Have you tried our 100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream? What did you think? Feel free to share your thoughts below!
