Tag Archives: preservative-free skin care
The beauty of switching to 100% natural skin care is that you no longer have to think about all the nasties you’re depositing onto your face and body on a daily basis – but this comes with a caveat.
Although the natural skin care on the market today is extremely advanced in terms of performance and the look and feel of the products, the fact remains that without synthetic preservatives, they usually don’t last as long as their mass-produced synthetic counterparts.
Most of the time, the shelf life of a natural skin care product is longer than it would take you to use up the product – but there are still a few rules you should follow to make sure your products stay as fresh and effective as possible for as long as possible.
1. Keep it cool.
Many natural skin care products lack the ingredients found in synthetic products that ‘hold’ the product together. A good example of this is our Raw Gaia range of products. All the Raw Gaia moisturisers are made with a beautiful blend of essential oils, teamed with cocoa butter.
Ideally, they should be solid but malleable – so that you can scoop some out and warm it in your fingers before applying. But if left in a warm environment, they can ‘liquify’ – that is, turn to liquid. Cooling the product again can cause it to become separated, so that the ingredients are not mixed as they should be.
For the product to perform in the way it was designed, it needs to be kept cool – and this is the same for many natural skin products.
2. Keep it dry.
This applies especially to those products that come in powder form; for example, our Mokosh Face Cleansing Powder or Raw Gaia Face Packs. Designed to be mixed with water before applying, it’s tempting to keep these products in the shower – but be careful here.
One of the reasons natural facial masks are created this way (in powder form) is to avoid the need for preservatives. Bacteria need water – so removing the water from a product removes the need to add preservatives. So, once you get water (even a drop!) in your jar of powder mask, it’s only a matter of time before the product begins to go off.
Our tip is to apply such products before you get in the shower. Take a heaped teaspoon-full of powdered mask and mix it in a bowl with equal parts water. Apply to your face, then jump in the shower.
3. Make sure your products are working together.
Most natural skin care products say something on the label like, ‘follow with our *insert brand name* toner and moisturiser’ – or, ‘for best results, team with our other *insert brand name* skin care products’.
Skin care doesn’t have to be this regimental – you can mix and match, and use a cleanser, toner and moisturiser from three different natural skin care ranges. However, you need to be sure that the products you’re using compliment each other.
It’s no use using three different products all designed for dry skin if the end result is an oil-slick complexion! It may be that you only need to address dryness with one product, and target other skin care issues during the rest of your regime.
The key here is to ask questions. Here at Eve Organics, we provide free personalised skin care consultations – no catches! Simply send us an email and tell us what your skin type is, your current skin care routine, and what specific issues you wish to address – and we’ll send you a complete, comprehensive skin care regime, complete with personalised advice and recommendations.
This way, you’ll know that the combination of products you choose will achieve the desired results. We know our skin care ranges like the back of our hands – so use us to your advantage!

Whether you’re flying across the globe or hopping in the car and crossing the continent, it’s difficult to keep your gorgeous on. As if the stuffy air conditioning and cramped, unmoved muscles weren’t enough, travelling is pretty rough on your complexion, too – and it’s hard not to end up a looking a little worse-for-wear once you reach your destination.
There are, however, a few things you CAN do to avoid that moment of terror as you gaze into the airport toilet mirror and realise you left your makeup in your packed luggage.
Here they are!
1. Take every mini cup of fluid that’s offered to you - and at least every second drink, go for the water!
Dehydrated skin is difficult to avoid whilst travelling, particularly if you’re flying – so work at prevention rather than cure, and keep your body hydrated on the inside. This one’s easy!
2. Avoid makeup.
Okay, we know this one is hard. But even if this means saying goodbye to the man of your dreams before pulling out the baby wipes, then doing the reverse when you reach the other end, it’s worth doing. If you have to wear makeup at either your origin or your destination, at least take it off when you get on the flight. Dehydrated skin is not a good look – but dehydrated skin that can’t breathe is an even worse one. Trust us, or you’ll find out when you finally remove the layers!
If you simply have to wear makeup during the journey, then make it a tinted moisturiser (a 100% natural one, of course) – or better still, simply dab on some concealer on your trouble spots and leave the rest bare.
2. Feed your skin.
You can’t go without food on a day-long journey, and neither can your skin. At least every couple of hours, give it a good spritz with a nutritive toning mist. We love our Oz Goddess Rehydrating toner for this purpose – it contains soothing chamomile, rose floral water to hydrate and grapefruit & Australian quandong extract to refresh and revitalise tired skin.
4. Don’t forget your eyes!
Nothing gives away a lack of sleep like the eyes. They’re the first place to show signs of tiredness, which you’ll no doubt be suffering from after a long journey away from your own bed!
Luckily, there’s an answer. It’s our 100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream, and it’s an absolute winner at battling dark circles and puffiness. An independent 4-week study found that
- 97% of women saw a reduction in puffiness
- 87% saw a reduction in dark circles
- 93% saw a reduction in wrinkles
- 93% said it increased firmness.
5. Keep it simple, sexy.
It’s tempting to curl your hair and lashes and put on some sexy pumps when you’re preparing to meet someone special at the other end of your travels – but trust us, you WILL regret this one!
Try to keep it simple. Put your hair in a pony to keep it off your face and avoid greasiness. Wear something comfortable – you can always get changed before you land. And remember, walking through airports with heavy luggage is hard work – your 6-inch peep toes are probably not the best option.
… So there you have it – our guide to travelling the healthy (and comfortable) way!

Those of you reading this and thinking, ‘Yuck! I hate almonds!’ best find another post to read.
Because here at Eve Organics, we LOVE almonds. In our biscuits and on our faces!
We all know that almonds are used to make macaroons and marzipan (didn’t know that? You need to get baking – you’re missing out!)…
but here a few things you may not know about one of the healthiest members of the nut family:
- Almond meal makes a great substitute for flour, and can be used in cooking.
- Almond milk is a fantastic alternative to cow’s milk for people who are lactose intolerant. And it’s tasty! Check your local health food store.
- Almonds are great at softening and gently exfoliating the skin, and almond makes a great addition to homemade cleansers and scrubs. Here are a few examples:
Almond Milk Cleanser
- 4 Tablespoons of fine almond meal
- 4 Tablespoons of white clay
- I Tablespoon of organic milk powder
Add all the ingredients to a jar, close and shake well. To use, pour 1 Tablespoon into your hand and gently massage into the skin. Rinse off and pat dry, and say hello to softer, smoother skin!
Breakfast Yoghurt Scrub
- 20g of Brewer’s yeast (find it in the baking section)
- 2 Teaspoons of plan organic yoghurt
- 2 Teaspoons of almond meal
- 1 Teaspoon of honey
Combine the ingredients and stir well to mix. Use immediately (do not refrigerate). Yeast is fantastic at encouraging circulation and is a rich source of vitamin B6, and honey is antiseptic and healing.
