Hi Eve Organics!

I was hoping you could recommend a regime for me – I suffer from acne but it seems to be hormonal because when I go on the pill this helps. I get the blemishes on my t-zone forehead, chin) and sometimes my cheeks.  I find that commercial acne products can be too drying, while some organic products can be too rich.  I cleanse, tone & moisturise twice a day, use mineral makeup and exfoliate with a mask once a week. I have had microdermabrasion twice which seemed to help, but I think my routine needs a shake-up.
Thanks for your help,
Elyce*.

Hi Elyce*,

Thank you for providing that information – I would love to help you on your journey to naturally beautiful skin!
Most acne is hormonal, and what you’ve described sounds like typical hormonal adult acne. It seems as though you’re treating your skin quite well; it just needs some ‘balance’ and routine. You said that commercial anti-acne products can be too drying – this is precisely the problem with the majority of anti-acne skin care, it’s just too harsh. It usually works at clearing acne in the short-term, because the ingredients are so drying that they strip the skin of oil. However, this is never a good idea long-term, and it doesn’t solve the problem.
Hormonal acne is exactly that – hormonal. No topical skin care product (commercial or organic) is going to ‘fix’ the problem; it needs to be addressed from the inside out. Hormonal acne in women is generally caused by an excess of ‘androgens’ – a type of male hormone (which women have too.) There are various ways of tackling this problem – one is taking medication (such as anti-androgenic contraceptive pills). But there are also dietary changes you can make – both dairy products and refined carbohydrates work to increase the level of androgens in the system; so cutting out or reducing your intake of these foods can be beneficial. Click here to read our blog post about the link between diet and acne.
As far as your skin care goes, the idea here is to balance sebum production gently, and encourage the skin to regenerate and repair itself. If you’re finding some natural skin care too rich, then you probably have normal/combination skin – so you need to use skin care designed for this.
I’ve written out a complete regime for you, including a cleanser, toner, moisturiser and mask. You don’t necessarily need to use all these products together, and you should find that incorporating even one or two of them into your routine will make a difference; but I wanted you to have a complete regime to refer to.
Cleanser = Gourmet Body Treats Kukui Mint Cleanser
This cleanser is designed for combination skin types. It will help to balance oil production and unclog pores without drying the skin. It contains chamomile oil to calm, peppermint and lavender oils to balance sebum production, and willow bark extract and vitamin B5 to combat acne.
Toner 100% Pure Mint White Tea Tonique
Soothing and refreshing, this toner will help to tone the complexion, reduce the appearance of enlarged pores and prepare the skin for moisturisation. It contains soothing aloe to reduce redness, tea tree and sage to balance and purify, and calendula to calm an angry complexion.
Moisturiser Oz Goddess Balancing Moisturiser
This moisturiser is hydrating but not at all oily or greasy. It leaves a beautiful matte finish, and is ideal for combination skin types.  It contains shea butter to hydrate without clogging pores, and lavender and neroli oils to balance. This is actually the moisturiser I use myself.
Mask Mokosh Face Cleansing Powder/Mask
One of our best sellers, this wonder produce is fantastic at balancing the complexion, purifying oily and acne-prone skin types, and reducing the appearance of enlarged pores. It contains a host of gorgeous ingredients, including rose petals, organic neem powder (renowned for its anti-acneic properties), oatmeal to soothe and clay to withdraw impurities.
I would suggest that you follow your current routine; that is, cleansing, toning and moisturising twice a day, and using the Mokosh Face Cleansing Powder/Mask once-to-twice a week for 15 minutes.

If it’s gourmet, it’s our kinda thing!

As you know, here at Eve Organics we’re continuously and tirelessly researching the natural skin care market, on the hunt for new 100% natural skin care ranges to add to the
Eve Organics store.

As you’ll also know if you’ve ever received an order from us, we place an emphasis on decadence. We believe everything about skin care should be delicious – from the ingredients to the packaging. Like our slogan says, we stock ‘gourmet skin care for all skin types’ – so when we stumbled across a range named Gourmet Body Treats, well, we knew they were a perfect match for our philosophy.

The Gourmet Body Treats range is hugely popular in the US, and we’re proud to be bringing the range to Australian shores (and further)!

Of course, as per our requirements for new ranges, the Gourmet Body Treats line is 100% natural, alcohol-free, cruelty-free and beautifully presented. As if that wasn’t enough, the entire Gourmet Body Treats range is also vegan.

Some standout products (although they’re all just gorgeous!) include;
- the Clarifying Serum for acne-prone skin; an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory moisturiser containing vitamins B5 and A, neem and chamomile extracts to fight infection;
- the fast-absorbing, anti-aging Bio Hydrating Rose Cream, made with shea butter, vitamin E and the famous seabuckthorn extract; and
- the Sugar Cane Exfoliator, a miracle for those with enlarged pores. Made with sugar and fruit extracts, this refining gel removes dead skin cells and leaves behind beautifully clarified skin.

The range also boasts a plethora of eye creams, treatments, masks and solid cleansers.

We are so pleased to be welcoming Gourmet Body Treats to the Eve Organics boutique, and we’re sure you’ll love the products as much as we do!

The Benefits of Rosemary

I don’t know about you but when I think rosemary, I think roast lamb. Rosemary is a herb commonly used in cooking for its fragrant flavour – but aside from its culinary appeal, it has a number of benefits for the skin – and has been used to heal various ailments for centuries. Rosemary has been used to treat digestive disorders and headaches, and is currently being investigated as a treatment for Alzheimers Disease. When used in skin care products, rosemary has the effect of increasing blood circulation and improving the functioning of skin cells, as well as toning the skin and acting as an astringent, so it’s excellent at balancing combination skin and as a firming ingredient in anti-aging skin care. Two components of rosemary thought to be responsible for these effects are caffeic acid and rosemarinic acid, both anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agents.

Rosemary can be found in our:

Mokosh Face Oil for dry skin – a luxurious & replenishing moisturiser that sinks into the skin – this oil is ultra-hydrating, with avocado, macadamia and apricot kernel oils to enrich and rejuvenate dry complexions.
Healing Anthropology Rejuvenating Face Cream – the ultimate moisturiser for those of us over 30! This gorgeous cream contains every natural anti-aging ingredient you could want – including coenzyme Q10, DMAE, alpha lipoic acid and green tea. It also smells divine!
Beyond Organic Detoxifying Cleanser – this deeply cleansing concoction is excellent at repairing damaged and unbalanced skin, encouraging blood circulation and cell renewal. For skin that needs a pick-me-up!
Beyond Organic Uplifting Toner - this gorgeous, refreshing toner is suitable for all skin types – including sensitive and acne-prone. It contains lavender to balance, mandarin to soothe and tone, and grapefruit & lemon to refresh and invigorate!

Our Picks for Christmas

Christmas is approaching fast, (yes! We love christmas!) so we thought we’d prepare a little helpful list – not for Santa, but for you!

This is a list of our picks for the festive season – what to buy, for who, and why.
We’ve put a lot of thought into this list – so sit back, save time, and get your christmas shopping in early – we’ve done the work for you!

After all… who doesn’t want beautiful & glowing skin for christmas?
:)

Best product for teenagers = Raw Gaia Raw Chocolate Face Pack

Why? = This luxurious face mask clarifies and brightens all skin types – but it’s particularly good for oily, combination or acne-prone skin. It contains sundried red clay to draw out impurities, organic raw chocolate powder – the world’s highest known source of antioxidants, apart from smelling divine – tumeric, which is a known acne-fighter and excellent at purifying oily skin types, and amla fruit powder to clear and brighten the complexion.
This wonder-product not only has an amazing effect on troubled skin, it also smells heavenly and is fun and quick to use – perfect for teens!

Best pore-refining product = Mokosh Cleansing Powder, Healing Anthropology Purifying Facial Exfoliant

Why? = These little jars of powdered love are saviours for enlarged pores or unrefined, dull skin. They have the effect of applying a primer – they make pores disappear before your eyes. (Honestly!). They do this by getting in there and gently cleaning out those pores, whilst toning, refining and balancing the complexion, with ingredients like green clay, wheatgrass powder and the skin-loving oatmeal (Mokosh), calendula flower, rose petals and jojoba meal (Healing Anthropology).
As if that wasn’t enough, both of these beautiful products also double as weekly masks – so they’re real time- and money- savers, and perfect for mums or those who are short on spare time in their daily routine.

Most luxurious anti-aging moisturiser = The Little Alchemist Anti-Aging Defence Complex

Why? = This product is just too gorgeous. The packaging is sophisticated and feminine, and the product inside smells wonderful, is packed with natural anti-aging ingredients (DMAE, alpha-lipoic acid, MSM, seabuckthorn oil, hyaluronic acid, gingko, ginseng and Co-Enzyme Q10 – phew!) and sinks in to the skin beautifully. It’s a pleasure to use, and looks perfect on the bathroom shelf! Mum or Nan will love you for it.

Best gift for the traveller in your life = Invoke Rose Toning Mist

Why? = This product is a MUST for jet-setters. Not only does it tone and refine the skin, as all toners are made to, but it has the added benefit of soothing ingredients like cucumber and chamomile, which calm, de-puff and revitalise. No more red, irritated skin or puffy eyes when you touch down! This toning mist also contains floral waters of rose and neroli to add moisture (so it keeps your skin hydrated too), and lavender to balance. We road-tested this on a recent longhaul flight and it was absolutely fantastic. No redness or puffiness what-so-ever – our bloodshot eyes were the only giveaway!

Best Product for Busy Mums = Balm Balm Fragrance Free Face Balm

Why? = This product is a multi-use miracle. Made with the simplest and gentlest of ingredients, it’s made as a moisturiser for very sensitive skins, but also doubles as a glossy lip balm, hair smoother (yes, it works – we’ve tried it!) and more importantly, a gentle and safe balm for baby’s skin. New mums can keep this little tube in their handbag and throw away their lip balm, hair serum and baby lotion! It’s a time-saver and a much safer and gentler alternative to commercial baby products, containing only  shea butter, sunflower oil, beeswax, calendula and jojoba oil. Beautifully soothing and beautifully simple! = Just what frazzled mums need.
:)

Has that given you some food for thought? We hope we’ve helped with our christmas picks list!

Acne? Read here to save your suffering skin, naturally.

Ava Milton, EzineArticles.com Basic Author

Acne affects such a large proportion of the population, and those who suffer from acne will know that it affects people in a number of ways. It’s frustrating, and can cause great distress and a lack of self-esteem.

Before we go on, we’d like to remind you, that you are beautiful. As a general rule, acne sufferers tend to view their acne and its effect on their appearance much less favourably than do other people around them. It’s probably not as bad as you think!
On top of this, acne is not untreatable or incurable, and sometimes the solution is a lot simpler than you think.

What you may not know, is that nearly all the commonly-recommended/suggested products for acne contain ingredients that are in fact not very good for your skin at all, and are unlikely to help it in the long-term.
Most popular, off-the-shelf products for acne contain not only bleaching agents and harsh ingredients, but also nasty preservatives and synthetics  which aren’t actually helping your acne at all, but are there simply to preserve the product, or hold the ingredients together.

You don’t want to be putting harsh or damaging ingredients on your skin. If you have acne, your skin is suffering enough. Treat it with kindness.

There are hundreds of natural remedies for problem or acne skin, which have been used successfully for hundreds of years. These include tumeric, sulphur and garlic, among many others.

More so, some of these products have been found in various studies to be even more effective than popular chemical acne treatments. One good example is Green Tea.
A 2003 study conducted by Dr Jennifer Gan-Wong and presented at the American Academy of Dermatology revealed that a 3% green-tea solution was comparable at clearing acne  to a stronger, 4% benzoyl peroxide cream. And that’s without any of the drying and irritation that can be experienced with benzoyl peroxide use.
Another study conducted by the University of Miami in 2009 revealed that a 2% green tea lotion applied twice a day significantly reduced mild to moderate acne over a 6-week trial.

Green Tea has amazing antioxidant and antibacterial properties, and is also said to help with the regulation of hormones – a common cause of acne. Green Tea is wonderful for all skin types – so you can rest assured that using it on your acne-prone skin won’t result in damaged skin years later. The same cannot be said, however, for the more common non-natural acne treatments.
Yes, you want to clear your acne – but you also want to look after and nourish your skin, not leave it scarred, irritated and damaged.

Invoke Green Tea Moisturiser
Our gorgeous Invoke Green Tea Moisturiser is perfect for acne-prone skins, containing green tea, watercress extract to balance and clear, citrus seed extract to brighten, and rose maroc essential oil to add moisture without greasiness. It’s also very  reasonably-priced at just $16.00 for 50ml. ALL natural – ALL beneficial ingredients that your skin will love.

The root cause of acne can vary. One of the most common causes is hormones. In these cases, there are various options available, including the contraceptive pill for females. There are also a variety of natural hormone-balancers available, including green tea and evening primrose oil.

Evening Primrose oil has long been associated with hormonal regulation, and is one of the ingredients in The Little Alchemist’s ‘Ultra-C Radiance Serum’, which also contains Rosehip Oil, excellent for acne scarring and pigmentation, Calendula to calm inflammation, and a natural form of Vitamin A, also proven very effective in fighting acne. You can click on the image for more information on this beautiful product.

Fighting acne effectively doesn’t have to mean abusing or damaging your skin. The best way to fight acne, we believe, is to do so using ingredients that are helpful and kind to your skin long-term, whilst clearing your acne naturally. As we said, acne-prone skin is in distress and is already suffering enough – it needs caring for and treating with love, just like the rest of you.
